Because of pressure of work – I am working on a number of large scale projects at the present time – I have decided to combine this blog with my main WordPress visual arts blog: http://ionistartblog.wordpress.com/. I am very sorry for any inconvenience caused but I cannot keep up with my workload at the moment.
Incidentally I am in the process of reducing the number of my literary blogs too. Some of these will remain until the end of the year but my main literary blog will now be: http://ionistart.wordpress.com/
Another consequence of this rationalising of my time is I have killed off all my pseudonyms – most of which had separate artistic careers. There was eight of us all together – initially four but all the pseudonyms wanted pseudonyms of their own! – which is a bit frightening as some of them covered art styles I didn’t really want to associate Gerald Shepherd with! Very dramatic times ahead I fear!
Thank you so much for all those who have followed this (and/or other blogs) over the years. I truly appreciate it. I hope you find my Ionist Art Blog of interest!
I did a vast number of works in the late Seventies where I drew over existing images (a bit pretentious I know – but I didn’t do it to actual works, just prints or reproductions). The pieces covered included a number of books (some or all pages) and prints like this one.
Drawn Over Print
From the end of 1976 to some when in 1980 I did scores of repeated circle drawings and paintings. They started as a background element in a painting entitled A GOD CREATING THE WORLD and then carried on as works in their own right. I planned to do several eight by four foot panels entirely filled with one inch circles, but never did – however I may still at some point. This work was drawn in oil pastel on plywood but most were done on paper. I haven’t a clue which way up this was meant to be!
Forty Five Minutes
Forty Five Minutes The Other Way Up
These two pictures were discarded by me and subsequently used by my father as shelves in a garden shed – then the rain got in!
I did actually do a number of paintings in 1977 which I deliberately left outside to “metamorphose”. Sadly in those days I never photographed my experiments.
Simple Simon being Simon King. Or is he being Gerald Shepherd?
